Loriann Barcus

MSLPC

I am a graduate from the University of Wisconsin Stout and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Wisconsin.  I have worked in various disciplines over the years, many of which are, or have been, in the health field. I have worked with people from a variety of socio-economic and educational backgrounds and with pre-teens and adolescents, young adults, mature adults and the elderly.

I value a spirit of compassion, openness, appreciation, non-judgment, exploration, and collaboration in my approach to the therapeutic relationship, fostering an environment of trust and safety.  I work with clients to help them recognize and promote their inner resources and strengths as well as to help them learn new tools and skills needed to facilitate growth and healing.

We are always in relationship:  to ourselves, to others, to our thoughts and feelings, our circumstances and even to our environment---in fact, to the very ground that supports us.  Our primary relationship is with ourselves, however, and influences all of the other relationships in our life as well as how we interpret or perceive events.

Better understanding our patterns of thought, feelings and behaviors, increasing conscious awareness in the moment, and learning how to take care of ourselves empower us to make more appropriate choices so we become “response-able” instead of reacting from habit or “automatic pilot.”  The past does not have to define us.
